Mobility Scooters

Why purchase a mobility scooter?

The mobility scooter is one of the most popular mobility aids today. The mobility scooter can help you get out and about with ease as well as increase your independence.  Mobility Scooters are designed for those who have limited mobility and might find it challenging to walk for a length of time or distance. They will bring increased freedom and independence and are particularly useful if your mobility is limited by conditions such as arthritis, multiple sclerosis, joint pain, obesity, physical disabilities or medical conditions. They are also helpful for people who use oxygen and need to conserve their energy or individuals or if you have trouble walking for extended periods of time, experience difficulty managing a walker, cane or crutches. Mobility scooters can also be a great help when the time comes to give up driving or you have to rely on others to do your shopping or get around town. Mobility scooters are generally cheaper than electric wheelchairs and are easy to operate. They require less upper-body strength than manual wheelchairs. You don’t need a driver license and you can use scooters in most public and private spaces.

Service, maintenance and repairs

Regular servicing of your mobility scooter is the best form of insurance against breakdown and unreliability. To ensure your Mobility scooter functions perfectly, and remains in good condition, we recommend a full service depending on how often you use your scooter and how far you drive it, within one year of purchasing your mobility scooter, checking your tyre pressures monthly, looking after the battery and charging it as per manufacturer’s recommendation and correct storage of your mobility scooter. The better you maintain your mobility scooter, the better it will perform over time.

If you do require repair work, we are equipped for all mobility scooters that we have in store, as well as most other brands and have spare parts available for purchase. We carry a full range of tyres, batteries and electrical and mechanical components. We are experienced in servicing most mobility scooters whether purchased from us or elsewhere.

Your batteries and tyres are the two parts that will need replacing. The timeframes for these depend on how much the scooter is used and how often it is charged.

To be sure  your mobility scooter remains in tip top condition  in between services – Simply –  ensure the batteries are charged regularly, (no less than fortnightly), check the tyres, (at least two monthly) we can advise you appropriate tyre pressures, and  have your mobility scooter cleaned regularly ,  as this will prevent  dirt and grit building up and potentially entering the moving parts of your scooter, such as the brakes. It can also prevent rust.

Store your mobility scooter in a dry, clean & secure area (e.g. garage or shed) and cover your mobility scooter motor when not in use, to protect them from low temperatures and prevent corrosion. Low and high temperatures can affect batteries, which in turn can affect the overall life span of your battery.

Once you have purchased your mobility scooter, be sure to insure it to cover you against accidents and theft as well as any possible third-party claims.
